DAVAO CITY — Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said yesterday that he turned down an offer of P200 million from a drug lord in exchange for his release.


Duterte said the drug lord enticed him by saying that all it takes is a phone call for the funds to be transferred to his account.


The mayor rejected the bribe and reportedly retorted: "There is no cellphone in hell."


The drug lord was believed to be one of the big financiers of the illegal drugs trade in the country.

DAVAO CITY — Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has accepted the challenge of Maguindanao mayors for him to name the municipal mayor he earlier had alluded to as having allegedly sneaked in at least 3.5 kilos of shabu to this city.


"I accept the challenge," Duterte said, referring to the call of Parang, Maguindanao Mayor Abu Talib. 


Duterte, however, asked that he be given three to four days to consolidate the intelligence reports on the alleged illegal activities of the Maguindanao mayor.
