Judge Reuben de la Cruz, of the Marikina Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 272, ordered the postponement at 8 a.m. yesterday after the Public  Attorney’s Office (PAO) filed a motion to defer the arraignment of the case against Lara, Licayan and two other accused Pedro Mabansag and Noel de los Reyes.


The Supreme Court postponed the scheduled execution of Lara and Licayan last Jan. 30.

                    [Summary] => The Supreme Court temporarily suspended yesterday the execution of convicted kidnappers Roberto Lara and Roderick Licayan while the court studies whether evidence submitted by public attorneys would merit a re-trial of the case.


Voting 7-6, the high court stayed the executions for 30 days, starting Jan. 27, the day after the court voted to study the evidence. The two were supposed to be executed by lethal injection at 3 p.m. tomorrow.

                    [Summary] => Malacañang will await the decision of the Supreme Court (SC) on a petition filed by government lawyers for a new trial for two death row inmates scheduled for execution on Jan. 30, officials said yesterday.


Presidential Spokesman told the government-run Radyo ng Bayan that the Palace welcomes the move of the SC to give due course to appeals filed by the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) to seek the reopening of the kidnap-for-ransom case against Roberto Lara and Roderick Licayan.
