The Philippine Electricity Market Corp. (PEMC) plans to integrate the wholesale electricity spot market (WESM) in Luzon with its Visayas counterpart within the first half of 2007, PEMC president Lasse Holopainen said.


He  said PEMC is currently seeking the approval of the Department of Energy (DOE) on the integration of the Visayas market. "We are targeting to have the Visayas WESM going by the second quarter of this year."

Philippine Electricity Market Corp. (PEMC) will introduce a new product in the wholesale electricity spot market (WESM), a ranking company official said.


PEMC vice president for market operations Mario Pangilinan said they are planning to trade the so-called "reserves" of power generators.


"The reserve market has been a long practice by the system operator where they put some generation capacity on stand-by in the event a power plant bogs down," he said.

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) will release the results of its investigation on the alleged anomaly at the wholesale electricity spot market (WESM) by end-January 2007.


In a press conference, ERC chairman Rodolfo Albano Jr. said an investigation team composed of ERC officers has been formed to undertake its own probe on apparent price manipulation of the state-run Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp. (PSALM).
