Malacañang urged Taiwan yesterday to return to the negotiating table to
settle a renewed aviation dispute. 

"We hope that the Taiwanese side would accept the proposal of MECO for the
resumption of air consultation talks in Manila on 1-2 March 2000," President
Estrada's spokesman Fernando Barican said. 

The Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) represents Philippine interests
in Taipei. The Philippines has diplomatic ties only with Beijing, which
considers Taiwan a renegade province.
