At least three suspected big time drug traffickers in Central Visayas are being monitored by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency for possibly supporting candidates in the May elections.


PDEA regional director Amado Marquez said the suspected drug personalities are friends of some politicians and incumbent officials in Central Visayas, including Cebu.


Marquez said these suspected drug dealers, whose names he refused to reveal, would likely finance the candidacy of some local officials to gain influence as soon as their candidates win.

                    [Summary] => Despite the upsurge in robbery cases in Cebu in which several victims have been killed, police authorities still consider these incidents as isolated ones.


Regional police office chief Silverio Alarcio, Jr. said the recent robbery incidents in Cebu are not really alarming because the crime statistics in September remain lower compared to the same month last year.


Alarcio said only 24 murder incidents have been recorded in Central Visayas for the month compared to the 30 cases recorded in September last year.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia has joined as party complainant in the five criminal and administrative charges earlier filed against ousted Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority general manager Adelberto Yap before the Office of the Ombudsman Visayas over his alleged anomalous transactions.


The MCIAA board, during its regular meeting yesterday, also passed a resolution en masse expressing their move to join the governor as complainants in the five cases filed against Yap before the Ombudsman.
