[Title] => Truce instead of honeymoon
[Summary] => Spurned by the opposition on appeals for a honeymoon period, Malacañang yesterday called for a "ceasefire" in political hostilities after President Arroyo and Vice President-elect Noli de Castro take their oaths of office on June 30.
"In unity and reconciliation, the first step is to lower political temperature. Lets have some sort of ceasefire in the exchange of words that might hurt each others feelings," Presidential Spokesman Ignacio Bunye said.
He said the media became receptive of the Palace request for a "honeymoon period" for Mrs. Arroyo but some from the opposition continued to turn it down.
Bunye said Malacañang was receiving mixed signals from the opposition, particularly those whom they expected to be hardliners.

[Title] => Walkout part of no-proc plot
[Summary] => The sudden walkout of lawyers of opposition presidential candidate Fernando Poe Jr. from the canvass proceedings last Friday is part of a grand plan to discredit the constitutional process and derail the proclamation of the president and vice president on June 30, administration lawmakers declared yesterday.
Deputy Speaker Raul Gonzalez, co-chairman of the joint canvassing committee, and Camarines Sur Rep. Rolando Andaya said reports of destabilization attempts by Poes allies and supporters were bolstered by suspicious events days before the walkout.
"The walkout was part of their no-proclamation (no-proc) scenario," Gonzalez said. "They keep on saying they want to help speed up the canvass yet every move they make, like asking the Supreme Court to stop the canvass, belies their claims."

[Title] => The FPJ/KNP circus masked men . . . unmasked!
[Summary] => With the election canvass moving so painstakingly slow in Congress
most people here ask
whats happening to this country? It seems that the ire of the nation has now been focused on recently reelected Sen. Aquilino "Nene" Pimentel, Jr. who instead of showing gratitude to this politically weary nation, continues to foot drag the canvassing in Congress. In Cebu, few people doubt that all this is part of a sinister plan of the sore losers in this election to further destabilize this country for their personal and obviously selfish ambitions.

[Title] => Canvass to be questioned anew
[Summary] => As administration lawmakers expressed hopes of finishing the canvassing this week, opposition Sen. Aquilino Pimentel Jr. is expected to question the legality and constitutionality of the canvassing of votes for president and vice president when Congress is supposed to be no longer in session.
"I will raise the issue before the joint committee (this morning)," said Pimentel, one of five opposition senators sitting on the panel. "It is a legitimate question and we ought to bring our heads together to find a feasible solution."
With the 12th Congress ending its third and fourth regular sessions last week, the joint canvassing committee is without a "parent," Pimentel said.
"Can the committee continue to function without its parent? Assuming it can, to what body would it submit its report? Would it be to the outgoing Congress that is now non-existent, or to the incoming 13th Congress that will begin its first session on the fourth Monday of July?" Pimentel asked.

[Title] => Poe allies deserting him, says Joker
[Summary] => Allies of opposition Koalisyon ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino (KNP) standard-bearer Fernando Poe Jr. in the Senate and House of Representatives have apparently deserted him, Sen. Joker Arroyo said yesterday.
"Where were they when the actual tallying of the certificates of canvass of votes for president and vice president started last Friday night?" asked Arroyo, who has allied himself with the majority on issues involving the canvass.
He said it was only re-elected Sen. Aquilino Pimentel Jr. who took up the cudgels for Poe when the tabulation began.

[Title] => Palace on SC ruling: Lets go on with vote count
[Summary] => Following the Supreme Court decision yesterday denying the petition seeking to halt the canvassing, Malacañang said there is no reason for the opposition to raise other issues to further delay the counting in Congress.
"We have said that the opposition will not get away with this ploy to further delay the canvassing under the guise of raising constitutional issues," Presidential Spokesman Ignacio Bunye said.
"In any event, all parties should be prepared to accept the Supreme Court final decision on the merits of the case," he said.
