ZAMBOANGA CITY - Muslim separatist rebels abandoned a gas station owner they held captive for 86 days, in Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur last Thursday, the military said.

ZAMBOANGA CITY - A 34-year-old businessman from Lanao del Sur was freed by his kidnappers after his family paid a P200,000 ransom, police said.

The captors of Mangondaya Macre earlier demanded P400,000 but later reduced the amount to P200,000.

Macre was snatched by armed men, led by one Samsoden Rangaig Dimasungkay, while cruising along the Marawi-Iligan highway last Tuesday, according to Chief Superintendent Dominador Domingo, Western Mindanao police director.

ZAMBOANGA CITY - Kidnappers of a Zamboanga del Sur gasoline station owner have threatened to kill him if his family does not meet their ransom demand within this month, the victim's wife said.

Mrs. Claribel Funda said the captors of her husband Ralph Funda, 54, led by a certain Commander Rimaya, issued the warning in a Jan. 15 letter to them, increasing the ransom from P1.5 million to P2.5 million.

"Kung hindi, maghanda na kayo ng kabaong para sa asawa mo (If you fail, better prepare a coffin for your husband)," Mrs. Funda quoted the letter.
