[Title] => Iraqis view US departure with relief, apprehension
[Summary] => The Stars and Stripes were lowered, the Iraqi flag raised, and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta declared the U.S. role in the Iraq War officially over. Muhsin Mohammed was glad for that, but not satisfied. He wanted something that never came — an apology.

[Title] => EDITORIAL - Guarded optimism
[Summary] =>
The world welcomed with guarded optimism the return of sovereignty to Iraqis this week. Washington seemed only too glad to hand over the reins of government in Baghdad to Iraqis, advancing by two days the formal turnover that was originally scheduled yesterday. The world was hardly surprised.

[Title] => Dining with the Iraqi ambassador
[Summary] => Last week I was invited to a Chinese dinner tendered by Filipino businessmen in honor of Iraqi diplomats who have been displaced by the war. It was a good occasion to know Iraqis among us personally. Watching television often gives us a different impression of people in the news than if we were to meet them in flesh and blood. This is especially true of Dr. Ghaxi Fayssal Hussein who was assigned ambassador to Manila just before the war broke out. He is amiable, very soft-spoken and quite knowledgeable about politics.

[Title] => War draws to a close / Lessons to be drawn
[Summary] => A few columns back, we wrote that US victory in the Iraqi war was a foregone conclusion. It wasnt really a war. It was a bull elephant trampling down a helpless antler, or if you will, a Pacific cyclone knocking down a girls panties from the clothesline. But the rationale was that America had to invade Iraq because (1) the bloodthirsty anti-American tyrant Saddam Hussein had to be captured dead or alive and (2) Saddams weapons of mass destruction had to be destroyed lest they eventually ravage the heartland of America.

[Summary] => GANITO YAN: Some bully from the other side of town accuses your husband of hiding deadly weapons in the house. He comes over and bombs your family dwelling. Your son is killed and a daughter lies bleeding. Neighbors then loot whatever of value is left.
"You should be happy having been liberated from a wife-beater of a husband." The bully says. "Dont worry, well find you a new partner. Meantime, you might want to clean up the mess while we decide what to do next."
