                    [Summary] => The Department of Health (DOH) declared yesterday the St. Andrew’s School, which reportedly contaminated with mercury following a spill during a science class last February, is now free of the toxic metal and that classes will open as scheduled.


In an official statement issued from Geneva, Health Secretary Francisco Duque, who also chairs the Inter Agency Committee on Environmental Health (IACEH), said that as a result of equipment and technical expertise from the US-Environmental Protection Agency (US-EPA), "St. Andrew’s School is safe again."

Ito ang pinakahuling hakbang na ipapatupad ng MWSS na napagkasunduan ng Inter Agency Committee kaugnay ng patuloy na pagbaba ng water level sa Angat Dam.


Binigyang diin ng MWSS na kailangan magbawas ng water releases ng may 20 porsiyento kada araw upang maka-abot ang supply ng tubig hanggang limang buwan o bago sumapit ang panahon ng tag-ulan sa Hunyo.

Abad issued the statement even as he clarified that the country is not experiencing a shortage of the commodity as erroneously cited by a news report. Moreover, the government has no definite plans of importing rice, at least for now.


"Although there could be a disparity between local production as against our requirements, we cannot declare there is a shortage," Abad stressed.
