[Title] => Santos has not resigned: DOF
[Summary] => Insurance Commissioner Benjamin S. Santos has not resigned.

"I have not resigned and I do not intend to. I serve under the pleasure of the President. But I do not want to bother the President at this time when she is under siege," Santos said categorically.

Santos was appointed IC Commissioner approximately a year ago following the retirement of then commissioner Eduardo T. Malinis.

But the commissioner explained that the IC is aware of the forces that are trying to kick him out of office. "We have identified them."

Santos categorically stated that he wants the pre-need and health maintenance organizations (HMOs) to fall under the wings of the Insurance Commission (IC).

Former Commissioner Eduardo T. Malinis retired after serving the insurance industry for more than 40 years, mostly in the public service sector.

Just a week into office, Santos said both industries are basically financial institutions with functions and operations similar to the insurance industry. The IC is a line agency of the Department of Finance (DOF).
