During high school, I had the privilege to take part in a Model United Nations forum. A partner and I did our research and represented a particular country, as did the other participants.

The delegates came from all over Asia, and I had the chance to meet and bond with some of them while covering the weeklong event. Let’s meet our own delegates up close.

That, more or less, gives you a clue as to what the Hitachi Young Leaders’ Initiative (HYLI) is about. Held last Dec. 8-12 in Bangkok, Thailand (which this writer was fortunate enough to have been invited to), the HYLI gathered the best and brightest students from Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, Singapore, Philippines and Thailand. Together, the students addressed some of the key issues confronting Asia today.
