[Title] => The Manila Cathedral: A testimony of faith
[Summary] =>
Today marks the feast of St. Andrew the Apostle. He became patron saint of Manila because on his feast day, the Spanish forces successfully defeated Limahongs troops when they tried to invade Manila in 1574, supposedly to drive out the Spanish and restore the Philippines to independence. The Chinese pirate, however, was actually more interested on the spice trade and other exotic treasures from the East.

[Title] => A concert in Makatis St. Peter and Paul Church
[Summary] => This Monday, the City of Makati is sponsoring a concert in the old St. Peter and Paul Church. We are very happy about this because it is high time that our people of Makati get-together and know their citys past. Makati actually entered history as early as 1593 when the first Philippine Bishop, Fray Domingo de Salazar, O.P. discovered its volcanic tuff. The Spaniards called the tuff adobe, which meant the unburned bricks that provided the building blocks of the first stone houses in what became Intramuros.
