The Board of Investments (BOI) has approved a total of P5.656  billion worth of investments involving six  projects, the biggest of which is Globe Telecom’s expansion into third generation mobile, or 3G technology.


BOI managing head Elmer C. Hernandez said the latest batch of projects were approved under the agency’s simplified registration program and the Motor Vehicle Development Program (MVDP).

Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. senior vice president Serafin Pantaleon said that Toyota is still studying its passenger car price structure due to the recent depreciation of the peso against the dollar.


The new excise tax system, which was signed into law last week by President Arroyo, effectively lowers the tax on passenger cars and removes the tax-exempt status of Asian utility vehicles (AUVs).

                    [Summary] => The Board of Investments (BOI) is standing  pat on its decision to allow Ford Motor Philippines Co. Inc (FMCPI) to assemble the Ranger model in the country despite Francisco Motor Corp.’s (FMC) strong opposition.


BOI  managing head Gregory Domingo, said the decision made in October last year "will stand," he said.


However, on the still unresolved dispute between  FMC and Mazda Motor of Japan, Domingo said "the BOI would like to maintain an arms length policy."


Domingo said  the dispute between FMC and Mazda is a contractual issue.
