Caguing said the stove overheated and caused a fire that immediately spread to neighboring houses. Most of the houses are made of light materials.

Residents also reported two children missing. Both were believed to have been trapped in one of the burning houses.
As of press time, firefighters have not recovered bodies from the debris during mopping up operations.
