A number of local food manufacturers will participate in the Food Marketing Institute (FMI) Show the largest and most comprehensive international food industry event of its kind in the world.

The package, which was designed in consultation with industry leaders, is intended to boost the industry’s competitiveness upon the abolition of the US export quota system. The US is the country’s largest buyer of garments.

According to Garments and Textile Export Board (GTEB) executive director Felicitas Agoncillo-Reyes, earnings from garments performed four percent better than the original target of $2.85 billion with $2.974 billion in actual earnings for the whole of 2001.

However, compared with the previous year’s earnings, the 2001 export performance showed a decline of seven percent.
