[Summary] => I didn’t realize my recent columns on medical education caught the interest of Pinoy doctors here and abroad. I picked the subject, not typical in the lay press, because of a personal interest in it, being the son of a long time professor of medicine. In fact, many of the e-mails reacting to my columns are from former students of my Dad. But doctors are shy about going public with their views. Such is the medical fraternity here.

[Summary] => In the Gospel, Christ Our Lord says, again and again: "I have come that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete." But he also says: "There is a place in the plans of God for hardship, for suffering, for pain."
How do you harmonize these two-pain and joy? With God, all things are possible. And he does it! He gives us both at once: hardship, suffering, pain, laced with laughter and joy!

[Summary] => There are priests who are not distinguished. They are competent, even talented, but they do not stand out as unusual or extraordinary, and they are not believed to have what are called leadership qualities. They are, however, zealous and dedicated. They devote themselves to the humbler, less spectacular ministries, like hearing confessions, or celebrating Mass for ordinary people.
Such priests are the backbone of the Church. They probably will not get awards and marks of recognition, but (as Karl Rahner says) they are the ones who do most to promote the kingdom of God.
