Italian priest Father Giancarlo Bossi on Wednesday celebrated a 'homecoming' mass in Zamboanga after gaining his freedom from his kidnappers last week.

The 57-year old Bossi, a member of the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions (PIME), had been kidnapped by last June 10 in Payao town in Sibugay, Zamboanga.

He was later released after 39 days in captivity.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Friday lauded the release of Italian priest Father Giancarlo Bossi after the latter's detention for for than a month, according to media reports.

Pres. Arroyo made this declaration during the formal launch of the the Human Security Law in Malacañang.

"Father Bossi is back with us," she said.

She likewise said, "Talk is cheap.  It's the action that counts.  Give the Human Security Act a chance."

ROME (AFP) - Giancarlo Bossi, the Italian priest abducted last month in the Philippines, has been released, Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi said yesterday.

"Father Giancarlo Bossi has been freed, a car is bringing him to a Philippines police station," Italy's ANSA news agency reported Prodi as saying.

Pope Benedict XVI welcomed the news with "great joy" said Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi.
