LEGAZPI CITY — Residents of four barangays near Mayon Volcano — Mabinit, Matanag, Buyuan and Bonga — were ordered to prepare for evacuation as the volcano’s lava flow continue to advance inside the six-kilometer permanent danger zone.


The four barangays are located within the seven-kilometer extended radius of the permanent danger zone where the lava flow has been slowly advancing from the summit crater since July 15.

According to Alex Baloloy, the volcano’s sulfur dioxide emissions exceeded 11,000 tons yesterday, compared to 8,724 tons the previous day, and that lava flows were expanding at 250 meters per day.

Baloloy said they also detected 423 tremor episodes and eight volcanic earthquakes.
