ZAMBOANGA CITY – After wandering for decades in the southern seas,   the Badjaos now have a school that suit their culture and way of life – a floating school.


Funded by the Australian Agency for International Development (AUSAID), the school was inaugrated by Western Mindanao State University president Edilgario Gonzales.


The floating school  initially caters to 25 Badjao children while anchored at the R.T. Lim Boulevard here.

ZAMBOANGA CITY — Motorcycle-riding men gunned down a public high school principal in Lamitan, Basilan last Tuesday, authorities said.


Nick Castro, security chief of Lamitan Mayor Roderick Furigay, said Joselito Verzosa, principal of the Parang Basak National High School in Barangay Parang Basak, was cruising Barangay Sabong on his motorcycle when he was attacked.


Castro said investigation showed that the gunmen, who were riding tandem on a red Honda motorcycle, had tailed Versoza on his way to the school from his residence in Barangay Busay, Isabela City.

ZAMBOANGA CITY — Four armed men snatched the 19-year-old deaf-mute daughter of the president of the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) outside a subdivision here Tuesday night, police said.


Senior Superintendent Francisco Cristobal, city police chief, said Grace Gonzales, youngest daughter of WMSU president Edilgario Gonzales, was walking with a female companion outside Aurora Village when the four men on board two motorcycles got near them.
