Businessman Joseph Khongghun told the Makati City regional trial court that the three men, one black and two white, left the woman on the sidewalk on the evening of Nov. 1 last year and then ran toward a US warship docked at a pier, while the van also drove off.

                    [Summary] => Legal luminaries led by former Vice President Teofisto Guingona appeared before the Makati City regional trial Court yesterday to oppose the Department of Justice’s resolution downgrading the charges against three of the four US Marines accused of raping a 22-year-old Filipina at Subic Bay Freeport last year.


Guingona, along with former senator Rene Saguisag and former University of the Philippines law dean Pacifico Agabin, lent support to lawyer Evalyn Ursua of the Women’s Legal Bureau (WLB).

                    [Summary] => Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez yesterday affirmed that rape charges would be filed against the main US Marine suspect over the alleged assault of a 22-year-old Filipina in Subic last year, but will downgrade the same charges against three more defendants from being perpetrators to accessories.


"I downgraded (the other three) to accessories (due to) the fact that they were there, they have knowledge and they just abandoned her," Gonzalez said referring to the three US Marines, Dominic Duplantis, Keith Silkwood and Chad Carpentier.
