                    [Summary] => LEGASPI CITY — The Department of Health (DOH) confirmed yesterday that a two-year-old girl who died Wednesday afternoon at the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital, succumbed to meningococcemia, a deadly bacterial disease.


Three children — the victim’s two siblings and one relative — are still confined at the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital. 


Dr. Ferchito Avelino, DOH assistant regional director, said the victim hailed from Taytay, Rizal and came to Bulan, Sorsogon with her family for a vacation last April 4.

                    [Summary] => LEGAZPI CITY — Local health officials were urged to step up sanitary measures following the outbreak of hepatitis A in the towns of Barcelona in Sorsogon and Buhi in Camarines Sur.


Dr. Gerardo Bayugo, the Department of Health’s regional director, said 16 hepatitis A cases were reported in Barcelona, and 13 in Buhi.


Tests on water samples, Bayugo said, showed that the cases stemmed from fecal contamination of the drinking water.
