A police corporal, who had served as a security aide and driver of a former police director of Kalinga, has been implicated in the ambush of a Bayan Muna leader and his family two months ago.


The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) has filed murder and frustrated murder charges against PO3 Jessie Caranto with the Kalinga prosecutor’s office.


Caranto served as a driver-bodyguard of Superintendent Pedro Ramos who was relieved as Kalinga police director last month, Director Jesus Verzosa, CIDG chief, said.

BAGUIO CITY — A female broadcaster of a government-run radio station in Kalinga is now fearing for her life as she has been getting threatening messages via her cellular phone. 


Hazel Gup-ay, 36, of Radyo ng Bayan dzRK in Tabuk, the capital town of Kalinga, said the text messages accused her of being biased in reporting the July 31 ambush of Bayan Muna provincial chairman Dr. Constancio Claver and his family.

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet — Communist guerrillas vowed to "punish" those who ambushed the Kalinga chairman of the militant party-list group Bayan Muna and his family last Monday.


The ambush left Dr. Constancio Claver seriously wounded, with the bullets hitting his liver and kidney. His wife, Alice, was killed, while their 11-year-old daughter Cassandra was unharmed but is still in a state of shock.
