A much-awaited revamp in the House of Representatives following the failed impeachment bid against President Arroyo finally started on Wednesday night with Sorsogon Rep. Jose Solis getting the chair of the defense committee.


Even with the obvious absence of a quorum, the chamber railroaded the approval of the nomination of Solis as replacement for Parañaque Rep. Roilo Golez, who quit as defense committee chairman in August when he decided to join the mounting calls for President Arroyo’s resignation.

                    [Summary] => Leaders of the House of Representatives junked yesterday a proposal to apply the "no work, no pay" policy to members of the chamber.


The proposal was meant to hold House members accountable for absenteeism, which is rampant in the larger chamber of Congress.


In a caucus, Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. and his colleagues agreed that instead of withholding pay and benefits for chronically absent members, their names should be published in national newspapers on a monthly basis starting next month.
