[Summary] =>
Deposed President Joseph Estrada found it ludicrous that a documentary film about his life, including the colorful days of his movie career and the "jueteng-scandal" that shortened his presidency, is being banned for public viewing by the government.
After more than four decades in the local film industry where he is a multi-awarded actor and movie producer, Estradas bio-flick Ang Mabuhay para sa Masa (To Live for the Masses), got a "triple X" rating from the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).

[Title] => Distracted
[Summary] => Oil prices are hovering at around $60 per barrel. The peso has slid to the P56:$1 level once more in the face of political jitters. Yesterday, the expanded value added tax came into effect.
These are tough times.
Government ought to be focused on reassuring our people. The price of oil might be something beyond our control. But it is a problem that can be mitigated somehow by a comprehensive conservation program and a more urgent shift to alternative power sources.

[Title] => In search of solutions
[Summary] => After reading STAR colleague Boo Chancos column recently about the ill-equipped schoolhouses in Gen San, I am convinced how desperately we need alternative solutions to our problems of governance. Boo actually saw schoolchildren sitting on the floor at the Datu Paglas public schools because they were still waiting for desks and chairs from the Department of Education. I will not be surprised if after Boos column, a DepEd bureaucrat will quickly dispatch the items to Datu Paglas. That is the way weve solved problems.
