A veteran Manila police officer died in a shootout with six motorcycle-riding men in broad daylight yesterday in Ermita, Manila.


One man on a passenger jeepney was seriously wounded by a stray bullet during the brief gunbattle at the intersection of Taft and Ayala Avenues.


Senior Police Officer 2 Jess Valera, 52, detailed at the Manila Police District’s theft and robbery section, died from a single gunshot wound in the ride side of the body.


Valera died on the way to the nearby state-run Philippine General Hospital.
