We were "	wander-"	ing aim-"	lessly around Power Plant on Sunday afternoon when we spotted a Blackberry lying on the floor outside an underwear store. (For older readers: a Blackberry is a mobile phone and organizer, not a fruit.) I don’t know how long it had been lying there, but people were ignoring it pointedly. They were giving it a wide berth, as if they didn’t want to seem interested in other people’s property, or they suspected a prank instigated by a TV show.

Some weeks ago "	I noticed that "	my friend Chus "	was carrying a paperback copy of Atonement by Ian McEwan. Immediately I felt a strange kind of envy: he was reading it for the first time. As with all my favorite books I remember exactly where I was when I read Atonement for the first time— sitting on the floor of the Flip office as we proofread the first issue.
