Inspired by no less than Christ himself, the 2014 Lenten Message of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), through its President, Archbishop Socrates Villegas, is meant to be lived for all seasons by all of us who really claim to be Christ’s disciples, and not just during Lent.  It is entitled “Poverty that Dehumanizes, Poverty that Sanctifies,” and since it is a bit long, I felt inspired to summarize it in this column, with the hope that more people would be able to read it.

Amajority of our country’s population is now comprised of individuals born after 1986. At best, whatever knowledge we, aged 27 and below, have of what went on at EDSA and martial law comes from books, classroom discussions, or personal accounts of our elders.

The doubting me. The doubting you. Many of us are like the doubting Thomas in today’s Gospel event (Jn. 20: 19-31). Inspite of our profession of faith in the Lord, we go through bouts of anxiety, fears, and doubts that are an intrinsic part of human nature.
