It’s been some time since I’ve reviewed books, much as I’ve been receiving a lot from author-friends, especially poetry collections. It takes much time and effort to engage with worthy books, and come up with decent commentary on the positive side.

From the 12 shortlisted artists and exhibitions for this year’s Ateneo Art Awards, three emerged as the winners of the Fernando Zóbel Prizes for Visual Art: Charles Buenconsejo for “Destination Unknown” (shown at West Gallery), who was also named recipient of the Ateneo-La Trobe University Visual Arts Centre residency grant in Australia; Leslie de Chavez for “Complicated” (shown at Lopez Museum), who was also named recipient of the Ateneo-Liverpool Hope Creative Campus residency grant (Liverpool, United Kingdom), and Maria Jeona Zoleta for “The Unicorn Club” (shown at 1335 Mabini).

Carlomar Arcangel Daoana is set to launch his poetry collection today at Mag:Net Katipunan at 7 p.m.The Fashionista’s Book of Enlightenment, released by Designed by Words, comes seven years after his debut collection Marginal Bliss was published by the University of the Philippines Press.
