[Title] => Is rice self sufficiency a realistic goal?
[Summary] => I haven’t seen the detailed platforms of the presidential candidates but it is almost certain that there will be a section there that talks about food self sufficiency, mainly rice. That always sounds good, almost a motherhood statement and no one has really questioned that. But is that attainable or even worthwhile aspiring for? Maybe in the past when our population was smaller and competitive uses of land ideal for growing rice were not as many and compelling, we could probably grow all the rice we need. But now?
