The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board suspended Byron Bus Line’s franchise for 30 days.


LTFRB Chairwoman Elena Bautista has also ordered Byron Bus to bring its fleet of 51 buses to the Land Transportation Office’s main Quezon City office for roadworthiness tests.

As of early last night, 17 people were still fighting for their lives following a vehicular accident in Benguet province. The driver of a mini-bus and 26 of the passengers were killed when the bus slammed into riprap walls along the Marcos Highway in Tuba, Benguet.

                    [Summary] => Twenty-seven people were killed and 18 others injured  when a passenger bus slammed into a roadside boulder in Benguet province yesterday.


The bus was descending a steep road along Marcos Highway near the town of Tuba when it slammed into a high riprap embankment and flipped over.


The Byron Bus, with license plates AVD 800, which was headed for Mangaidan town in Pangasinan, was a complete wreck, with its roof torn off.


Police said an initial investigation indicated that the bus had a brake problem but reckless driving was also being considered as the cause.
