                    [Title] => BBRC official confirms inmate died at CCMC from meningitis
                    [Summary] =>

The inmate of the Bagong Buhay Rehabilitation Center who died yesterday at the Cebu City Medical Center did not die from beatings but from a lingering ailment, jail officials said.

BBRC operations chief, Sr/Insp. Gil Inopia, denied allegations that inmate Rando Sala was a victim of beatings, and showed to reporters the hospital-issued death certificate indicating that he died from acute bacterial meningitis.

Inopia clarified that the bruises found in Sala's body were already there when the inmate was committed to the BBRC last January 8 for rape charges.
