                    [Summary] => CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — Dingalan, Aurora Mayor Jaime Ylarde presented himself to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) yesterday following accusations that he ordered the murder of community journalist Philip Agustin.


Ylarde first visited the NBI office in Nueva Ecija to clear his name of allegations he had masterminded the killing of Agustin, his lawyers said.


This came a day after the Department of Justice (DOJ) ordered Ylarde and two other men tagged in the murder to appear before investigators to shed light on the case.

State Prosecutor Emmanuel Velasco subpoenaed Ylarde to appear on May 27 in a preliminary hearing along with alleged gunman Nilo "Boyet" Morete and another suspect, Manuel Alday, who are both still at large.


The subpoena is based on the statement made by Reynaldo Morete, Boyet’s cousin, who said that hours before Agustin’s murder, Boyet had asked him if he knew the publisher.


"If you see Agustin, point him out to me. He must be taken out because he has earned the mayor’s ire, because he is always being attacked in the press," Morete quoted Boyet as saying.


He also said that when he asked his cousin about the identity of "the mayor," Boyet replied, "Mayor Ylarde."

Morete claimed his cousin Nilo "Boyet" Morete, the alleged gunman, reportedly told him: "Kailangan nang tirahin si Philip Agustin dahil mainit si mayor, dahil lagi siyang tinitira sa press (Philip Agustin must be taken out because he has earned the mayor’s ire, because he is always being attacked in the press)."


When Morete asked his cousin whom he meant by "the mayor," Boyet reportedly replied: "Mayor Ylarde."
