[Title] => Palace: Pinoys beginning to see Senate as irrelevant, useless
[Summary] => The people are beginning to see the Senate as "irrelevant and useless" because of the senators alleged inaction and opposition to urgent bills, Malacañang said yesterday.
Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye said the administration has been seeking the Senates cooperation in the passage of many vital bills, among them this years proposed P1.053-trillion national budget, the Anti-Terrorism Bill, and the Biofuels Bill.

[Title] => JDV sees improved House-Senate relations
[Summary] => With Sen. Manny Villar Jr. slated to take over the Senate presidency from his colleague Franklin Drilon, congressmen led by Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. expressed hopes that relations between the Senate and the House of Representatives will "turn out for the better."
De Venecia said he will personally reach out to Villar to salvage what is left of the often adversarial relations between the two chambers of Congress.

[Title] => House to review 1995 Mining Act, says De Venecia
[Summary] => The House of Representatives will review the Mining Act of 1995 to provide more safeguards against the despoliation of the environment and safety standards for mining communities, Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. said yesterday.
He made the announcement after he, President Arroyo and Cabinet officials met for two hours with bishops who had asked the government to study the mining law in the wake of complaints from mining communities about destructive effects on the environment, particularly the recent mine tailings spill on Rapu-Rapu island in Albay.

[Title] => Pagan Christmas / We can do without the Senate
[Summary] => It may be that we have the whole concept of Christmas upside down. Although it is a day to promote "peace and great tidings" of joy, I am not sure that it is what happens especially when Christians claim ownership of the day "to celebrate the birth of Jesus, the messiah of mankind". More serious Christians find the shopping and festivities "too pagan" and wholly unrelated to a sacred birth. But it may be that it is these Christians who have got it wrong. According to the pagan version, the ideas and rituals of Christmas come from Winter Solstice celebrations.
