[Title] => SC deals govt another setback in tax case
[Summary] => The Supreme Court (SC) rejected a motion by the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) seeking the transfer of the P25-billion tax evasion cases against taipan Lucio Tan to the Court of Tax Appeals (CTA).
In a one-page resolution dated Aug. 17, the SC found "no substantial arguments to warrant the transfer.
On July 26 the OSG asked the SC in a motion for partial modification to let the CTA, instead of the Marikina Metropolitan Trial Court (MTC), hear the cases against Tan.

[Title] => The endangered species in government service - A Law Each Day (KeepsTrouble Away)
[Summary] =>
Writing something nice about an acquaintance since elementary and high school
days may create some credibility problems due to an apparent bias. Besides the
tendency to ascribe dubious motives cannot be avoided more so if the subject of
the commentary has reached the pinnacle of his career and used to occupy a very
prominent and influential position in the government. So even if the temptation
is overwhelming, I resisted the urge to throw in a few good words about
Beethoven Rualo when he was still the commissioner of the Bureau of Internal
Revenue.

[Summary] =>
Citing "very deep disappointments," Transportation and Communications
Undersecretary Josefina Lichauco tendered yesterday her irrevocable
resignation, ending 19 years of government service.
"Even if I am a CESO (career executive service officer), I resigned because I
have always been a decent public servant. The only difficult thing in this
decision is to leave the people I love. I've grown old with the department and
I've served long and hard.
