Affirming its commitment to shun politics, the new leadership of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said yesterday it would focus on pastoral reforms and the renewal of the Church in the country.

CBCP president Jaro, Iloilo Archbishop Angel Lagdameo has vowed to uphold the decrees of the second Plenary Council of the Philippines (PCP-II) and the National Pastoral Consultation on Church Renewal (NPCCR) that he feels have never been fully implemented.

The influential Catholic Church will work on intensifying personal faith nationwide as the world celebrates the Year of the Great Jubilee 2000, the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said yesterday.

"Because this is the Year of the Great Jubilee 2000, there will be an intensification of personal faith renewal all over the Philippines," said CBCP president Archbishop Orlando Quevedo over the weekend.

The Church's agenda for this year also focuses on social justice and the family.
