[Title] => World’s ‘toughest job’; of national and int’l laws
[Summary] => I thought that being a Sunday, I would not have very much to write about. Huh. But this is a different Sunday — it is also Mother’s Day — whatever that means. There was a time when I resented not being sent flowers by my children. The flowers were for their wives and daughters. Now, I feel relieved if I do not get flowers because I do not want or need flowers on Mother’s Day.

[Title] => Beiruts sorrow and a long-time friend
[Summary] =>
The stories from the newspapers are harrowing enough. But when you have a dear friend personally suffering from Beiruts woes, it is magnified many times. On the other line was my dear friend, Lebanese Baria Alamuddin, an articulate spokesperson for the Arab world on Western television. When the first pictures of Israeli bombing of Beirut came out, I thought of her immediately and texted her to find out just how she was. A busy journalist, she is the foreign editor of the distinguished Al-Hayat which is read by Arabs around the world.

[Title] => Remembering 9/11
[Summary] => It is undisputed that the world changed after 9/11. The very spectacle of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon burning after airplanes had been hijacked and rammed through the buildings, flashed on television worldwide, was awesome. The event became a fulcrum through which nations of the world would relate to each other as we entered the new millenium. It is not easy to answer questions it unleashed. The debate is still on. A whole set of assumptions went down with the twin towers which symbolized trade and business in the modern world.
