                    [Summary] => COTABATO CITY — Ten suspected Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) rebels were killed and five soldiers wounded in sporadic clashes since Sunday afternoon in three neighboring towns in Maguindanao.


Four of the soldiers were wounded in running gunbattles from 9 a.m. to past 2 p.m. yesterday in Barangays Lapok and Kuloy in Shariff Aguak town and in Barangay Tapikan in Datu Unsay town.


Evacuees said more than 2,000 rebels had converged on the three adjoining barangays since dawn and simultaneously attacked military positions.

Men of the Army’s 604th Infantry Brigade took over the two strategic hills at about 9 a.m., two hours after they bombarded the areas.

                    [Summary] => MAMASAPANO, Maguindanao — Hundreds of Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) rebels occupied portions of a highway linking this town to the provincial capital Wednesday night, forcing some 3,000 villagers to flee their homes.


Maguindanao Gov. Datu Andal Ampatuan said the rebels also surrounded the house of Mamasapano Vice Mayor Datu Nuali and attempted to take over the town hall.


He said the rebels withdrew from the municipal hall after policemen and civilian volunteers fired warning shots and cordoned the area.
