The Department of Health has declared the cholera outbreak in four tribal communities in Agusan del Sur under control.


The outbreak of the disease left 10 people dead and 117 others ill. The victims mostly belong to the Banwaon tribe in sitios Kamalangan, Tamiang, Guinsawan and Malitado, all in Barangay Binicalan in San Luis town.

Dr. Gerna Manatad, DOH regional epedimiologist for Caraga, said that the teams of experts sent to the areas last week have reported that contaminated drinking water was the primary cause of the cholera outbreak.
