[Title] => DOJ: All’s not lost in Javier case
[Summary] => Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez said yesterday all is not lost despite the acquittal of former Assemblyman Arturo Pacificador in the 1986 murder of former Antique governor Evelio Javier.

This, as the Philippine government could still run after his son, Rodolfo, who has been seeking political asylum in Canada.

"(The acquittal of Pacificador) will not affect our desire to have his son extradited because I think in the decision there seems to be an indication that he was the real mastermind, not his father," Gonzalez told reporters.

SAN JOSE, Antique -- For the first time in 14 years, the suspected mastermind in the Evelio Javier murder case has finally been detained in the provincial jail here.

Former assemblyman Arturo Pacificador was detained last Friday along with lawyer Avelino Javellana for being linked to one of the most controversial killings during the Marcos regime, or five days after the Supreme Court ordered their incarceration on Jan. 30.

Former Antique governor Evelio Javier was gunned down on Feb. 11, 1986, shortly after the snap election that later led to the dictator's ouster.
