(PLDT), through subsidiary PLDT Singapore, has struck a deal with M1, one of Singapore’s innovative mobile and IDD (international direct dial) service providers, to tap Filipinos in Singapore for a new prepaid mobile service.


The new mobile service, targeted for launch in the first quarter of this year, will be marketed under the Smart brand by PLDT Singapore. This will be similar to the 1528 Smart service launched in Hong Kong in 2004.

At a signing ceremony held in Bangkok recently, DTAC (Thailand) and CTM (Macau) became the latest operators to join the association.

The addition of DTAC and CTM brings AMI’s membership to seven operators with a subscriber base of over 30 million in the Asia-Pacific region. AMI’s five founding operators are CSL (Hong Kong), Maxis (Malaysia), MobileOne (Singapore), Telstra (Australia) and Smart Communications (Philippines).
