                    [Title] => Manila sets the example for tree-planting drive
                    [Summary] =>

We want to commend Manila Mayor Lito Atienza for being the first mayor to launch a tree-planting program in Manila that will cover most of the 897 barangays and the city schools and universities and colleges of Manila. We have always believed that all students should plant at least one tree a year. I don’t believe that any person’s life is truly complete unless he has left a tree that will flourish long after he is gone. The most famous poem on trees says "Only God can make a tree." True!

                    [Title] => Smokey Mountain greenbelt
                    [Summary] => The Department of Environment and Natural Resources and Philippine Wood Producers Association have signed a joint agreement to convert Smokey Mountain in Tondo, Manila into a city forest. That is a project that is most welcomed and that could turn Manila into a greener city. Right now, Manila has only Arroceros Forest as its only forested area. It would be great if Smokey Mountain were converted into its second forest.

People of my generation recall the Met as it was popularly referred to. It was as centrally located as could be and was accessible to all forms of public transportation. The same cannot be said of the Cultural Center in Roxas Boulevard that was designed strictly for car-owning clientele.
