Back when local bands were rocking harder than they ever did since the days of the Juan de la Cruz, Color It Red came along to breathe sweetness and light into the local music scene. That happened 16 years ago and it was mainly thanks to the vocals of Cooky Chua. Dulcet, mellow, such was Cooky then and it was because of her that tunes like Paglisan, Na Naman and Hand Painted Sky became anthems for the hip kids who also enjoyed moments of introspection along with the loud rocking sounds.

Now you can argue all you want, but I believe that the early Pu3ska helped local alterna-fans realize that having a horn section could be goddamn hip and "with it," too. Who says that brass is for ballroom dwellers alone?
Taking its cue from (what else?) ska greats like Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Pu3ska dished out danceable, positively charged ditties that helped convert many elbow-throwing moshers into goose-stepping rude boys.

The times since when I reacted on the same level have been few and far between but I plod on, eternally hopeful that one of these days I will find an exciting new sound to rave about. I admit that the search is starting to take on desperate proportions.
