Roberts was shot in the back and killed outside his apartment in Tulsa, Oklahoma, shortly after midnight on March 29, 1997. A newspaper report said Roberts was gunned down during an argument with two men. Roberts, the Denver Nuggets first round pick in 1977, was 42.
