[Summary] => Traditionally, the status symbol of the rich and upwardly mobile Filipino has been ownership of a Porsche, a Ferrari or owning an exclusive condominium unit that costs upwards of a hundred million.

[Summary] => This month brings in chilly mornings. Especially, if it rained or drizzled the night before. Listening to middle-eastern music while enjoying cheap, black tea can be stimulating to the senses during these waking hours. The hypnotic voice of Cairo-based Arabic singer, Natacha Atlas, or the soulful tunes of Lebanese diva Dania take the mind to hot warmer spheres for an hour-and back.

It’s not the first time this has happened. But this year, it was nice to see people actually expressing interest in Truman Capote’s work (even my mother-in-law, a doctor, asked to borrow In Cold Blood). And it was timely of publishers to recycle E. Annie Proulx’s 40-page short story by releasing a new edition of Close Range: Wyoming Stories, albeit with a big movie tie-in cover.

It is called Little Book of Miracles & Answered Prayers, which according to author Bunny V. Reyes is "a compilation of love stories between heaven and Filipinos."

Like Isaac Hayes jazzing in fashionable rhythm of "Shaft," dangerously cavorting on the mean streets, Assunta means real kicking.
