Share prices retreated slightly as investors took early profits from the gains made during a mild four-day run-up. The 30-company composite index shed off 12.7 points after posting a cumulative 78.1-point rise since Wednesday last week.

The Phisix ended at 1470.07, just under one percent off its previous level. The All-Shares index slid 3.48 points or 0.56 percent to 619.79, as value turnover thinned down to P740.26 million.

With the nagging BW Resources controversy hounding the Philippine Stock Exchange, member-brokers prepare today for a major top-level facelift aimed at improving the bourse's tainted image.

The 11-man team led by veteran stockbroker Felipe U. Yap will vie for the 12 available seats in the PSE board of governors, along with nine independent candidates in a crucial exercise that will practically lead to an overhaul of the present management.

The board is composed of 12 broker-nominees elected annually by the 165 active broker-members at the PSE.
