There’s been a lot of good things said about the showing of University of Santo Tomas, Ateneo, University of the East and Adamson in the recent UAAP senior men’s basketball championships.

Not to be outdone, reader Chito Hernandez, whose late father Professor Cristy was revered as the University of the Philippines sports guru, wrote in the other day to put in a good word for the Fighting Maroons.

[Summary] => World Boxing Council superfeatherweight champion Marco Antonio Barrera did what he had to do to beat challenger Rocky Juarez in Las Vegas last Saturday even if it meant disappointing fans who were treated to a dull affair instead of an exciting brawl.

Barrera’s showing did little to enhance his marketability but at this point of his career, he’s not thinking beyond his next fight. He couldn’t risk losing to Juarez and jeopardizing a huge payday in a rematch with Manny Pacquiao.

Malonso suggested the visit because he thought an interview with Valdes, his good friend, would reveal valuable insights on sports from a man of substance.

Valdes, 86, owes his long life to an unflinching devotion to God whom he calls "my co-pilot" and to sports. His list of achievements is something an average person wouldn’t be able to compile in 10 lifetimes.

This was announced by Philippine Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the FAO Philippe J. Lhuillier after the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) approved the FAO proposal.
