[Summary] => ZAMBOANGA CITY — Police released yesterday the captain and crew of a ship seized for trying to smuggle in 600 kilos of ammonium nitrate, which is commonly used as fertilizer but can also be used for explosives.
Zamboanga City police chief Senior Superintendent Francisco Cristobal said the suspects were freed on orders by assistant city prosecutor Czar Ciro Sedillo because smuggling charges were filed against them without a preliminary investigation by the prosecutor’s office.
The smuggling charges remained, however, and the suspects may be rearrested.
