                    [Summary] => Tommy Manotoc, playing under ideal conditions, shot a 73 yesterday to pace the Championship Class in the first Active Group Mid-Amateur Open at the Mount Malarayat Golf and Country Club’s Lubo and Makulot courses in  Lipa City.


He had one birdie, 15 pars against two bogeys to take a one-stroke lead in the 54-hole event.


"This tournament is full of surprises," Manotoc told MMGC golf operations manager Jack Imperial after the round. "First, there’s no hustle driving over here. Second, Mount Malarayat is just great."

"We are launching this event with the goal of making it one of the country’s top amateur events as well as one of our club majors," Mount Malarayat chairman Tony Turalba said yesterday.


Completing the organizing committee membership are Mount Malarayat president Antonio "Toti" Turalba Jr., golf director Mike Carr and golf operations manager Jack Imperial.
