NBA BUZZ Bobby Motus Injuries
CEBU, Philippines — Sports, like it or not, have a bad parallel and whether your engagement in it is recreational, panalay or professional, there is always the possibility of injury.
It’s more or less four games into the new NBA season and yet, some prominent players are already sidelined with injuries.
The basketball world has yet to see the debut of this year’s no.1 overall draft pick AJ Dybantsa. The 19-year-old rookie is still recovering from an ankle sprain he suffered in a preseason game.
The latest casualty is OKC’s Jalen Williams who fell awkwardly after a hard drive to the basket. It was a horrible sight seeing him on the floor for several minutes with a broken left foot. Remember Gordon Hayward when he broke his left foot in the early minutes of Boston’s season opening game against Cleveland in 2017? It required surgery, promptly ending his season and this will also end J-Dub’s as well.
He was not the only OKC player who got injured in that game. Prior, key rotation players exited the game with injuries. Cason Wallace left in the middle of the first quarter with a shoulder strain, and at the end of the quarter, Jaylin Williams followed with a wrist injury.
Copper Flagg will probably miss a few weeks with a sprained shoulder. The Mavericks star had the injury after a hard foul by Indiana’s Aaron Nesmith.
With the contract drama behind him, Jalen Duren had been playing great but we have to temporarily miss him for an indefinite time when he strained his left hamstring in the second quarter during the Piston’s game against Miami.
Out for at least two weeks is Yves Missi, New Orleans’ starting center with a left knee bone bruise. Charlotte will miss starters Kon Kneuppel and Coby White with leg injuries as well as rotation big man Grant Williams, also with a leg injury of his own.
The Orlando Magic just can’t seem to shake off the injury bug since last season. Magic stars Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner played sparingly last season because of foot injuries. Now, Banchero will be out for a few weeks with a right ankle sprain. Likewise, Jalen Suggs also suffered a knee injury. Orlando’s offense will now be focused on Wagner.
In a related development, Golden State is exploring the possibility of trading Kristaps Porzingis. KP is suffering from postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) and is reported to be seriously retirement. POTS is a disorder of the nervous system that affects blood circulation when standing which causes the blood to accumulate in the lower body causing the heart to pump faster. It then causes rapid heart beat, dizziness, brain fog and fatigue.
