Leptospirosis cases in Metro down – DOH

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) has reported a steady decline in leptospirosis admissions in Metro Manila hospitals.
“The overall leptospirosis hospital situation in the National Capital Region continues to improve,” the DOH said.
Across the 20 DOH-run hospitals being monitored, leptospirosis cases have dropped to 126, with five pending admissions, the department said.
The figure is 79 percent lower than the 592 leptospirosis admissions recorded on Sept. 2.
The DOH said 45 admitted leptospirosis patients are on hemodialysis, while 141 hemodialysis machines are available for inpatient use.
According to DOH data, 11,965 leptospirosis cases have been recorded this year, which is 46 percent higher than last year’s 8,189 cases.
Leptospirosis symptoms include fever, vomiting, nausea, muscle pain, headache and reddish eyes.
The DOH said people should seek medical advice after being exposed to floods, with or without symptoms, to avoid complications and death.
